Subject
Proclamation declaring 2010 as Rockville's Sesquicentennial Anniversary
Recommendation
Read and present proclamation to Adria Borakove, Jeff Weber, and Mary van Balgooy, members of the Sesquicentennial Task Force.
Discussion
On March 10, 2010, Rockville will celebrate the 150th anniversary of its incorporation as a city. In anticipation of the anniversary, a staff committee was convened this past summer to brainstorm elements of an appropriate celebration. In order to facilitate citizen involvement in the City's planning, staff recommended that a citizen task force be created to lead the planning effort. Participants were recruited over the summer via publicity in Rockville Reports, a press release, and on the City's website, and candidates appointed were drawn from certain City Boards and Commissions (i.e., Historic District Commission, Recreation and Park Board, Human Services Advisory Commission, Cultural Arts Commission). Others applied directly to the Clerk's Office for consideration.
