Recommendation
Read and present proclamation. Sean Stewart, Rockville native and Olympic Trial competitor, will accept the proclamation. Sean went to olympic trials for the Bejing Olympics. He will be a sophomore at the University of Maryland where he is a member of the Terrapin Swim Team. Before Maryland, Sean was the metropolitan champion in the 100 and 200 freestyle and captured the Montgomery County championship in the 50 and 500 free in 2008. Wootton High School named Sean the Scholar Athlete of 2008.

Discussion
At the U.S. Conference of Mayors’ Winter Meeting in January, the Mayors’ Olympic Task Force was launched to assist the City of Chicago in securing its bid to host the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The Conference of Mayors' President, Miami Mayor Manny Diaz, Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley and Honolulu Mayor Mufi Hanneman, are co-chairing the effort in the hopes of gaining support from cities across the country for Chicago’s bid. There is less than six months before the International Olympic Committee elects the 2016 Host City on October 2, 2009, and the USCM is urging support from cities nationwide. One of the suggestions was to call the community's attention to June 23, 2009, as Olympic Day.

All of the cities that participate will show the world their support for Chicago's 2016 Olympic bid and will be listed in a report to be presented at the upcoming 77th Annual Conference of Mayors in Providence, Rhode Island, June 12-16.

Rockville registered its event (a proclamation reading at a Mayor and Council meeting) at the specified place on the USCM website.
