Subject
Worksession with the Chairs of the City's Boards and Commissions
Recommendation
Receive a report for the chairs of the City's Boards and Commissions regarding their accomplishments from FY 2009 and their goals for FY 2010.
Discussion
In the fall of 2008, the Mayor and Council formed a workgroup to look at various issues related to the City's Boards and Commissions. The group, chaired by Councilmember Marcuccio, consisted of thirteen residents of Rockville. Ten of the members of the workgroup were either current or past members of one of the City's Boards or Commissions.
The workgroup met on December 10, 2008 and January 21 and February 23, 2009, to develop a list of recommendations. The recommendations were presented to the Mayor and Council at a worksession on May 18, 2009, at which time direction was given to proceed to implement the recommendations. One of the recommendations endorsed by the Mayor and Council was to reinstitute regular meetings with each Board or Commission, or at a minimum, a meeting with the chairs.
While several meetings have occurred in FY 2009 and the beginning of FY 2010 with some of the Boards and Commissions (Planning Commission, July 2008; Sister City Commission, July 2008; Environment Commission, September 2008 and June 2009; Board of Supervisors of Elections, October 2008; Traffic and Transportation, October 2008; Rockville Economic Development. Inc., November, 2008 and July, 2009; Compensation Commission, May 2009), there has not been an opportunity for the Mayor and Council to meet with every one of the groups. This meeting affords an opportunity for all of the groups to present some information to the Mayor and Council about their most recent activities and their upcoming plans. Time permitting, there will also be an opportunity for some general discussion between the chairs and the Mayor and Council.

NOTE: Since Rockville Economic Development, Inc. just presented their accomplishments for FY 2009 and their goals for FY 2010 at a worksession with the Mayor and Council on July 27, they will not be present on September 21.
